It's been exactly 2 months and 11 days since I first stepped into a foreign land named United Kingdom. I need not describe how ecstatic our batch were when we arrived here but let me say that we've had one hell of a roller coaster ride making ourselves accultured and yes, acclimatised to our new home. Take note acclimatised with an S and not with a Z(ed). The high that you get every morning feeling the cool and clean air and seeing "foreigners" and £ signs in every shop is sometimes surreal. Sometimes I even have to pinch myself to make sure that I am really now living and working in London. But the luxury of living in a posh first-world country does not come without difficulties. Aside from the fact that we had to adjust with the weather, culture, language and cost of living, we had to fight with the sense of aloneness in a foreign land. We were used to be the "locals" in Manila but now it is the other way around--we are now the foreigners, the non-native inhabitants of this country.

Honestly, aside from family and friends, I don't miss Manila so much. I really like it here especially the clean and crisp air and the general discipline of the population. Traffic and public transportation is superb here. I'm good with riding the bus or underground since they are so organized. Walking has also been our habit now since the high streets are just a couple of minutes away from our place. A pound seems to be like just a peso nowadays. An item worth a pound is already considered cheap here [for me]. Work is difficult but I try my best to make everyday a learning experience. I may not be in acute care anymore, but working with a unique set of clients is something really interesting. Nobody said that it would be easy but when you get to receive your paycheck at the end of the month, you'll tell yourself that it was all worth it. Though salary deductions are almost a third of your pay, you know that it goes to a worthwhile cause unlike back home that you are not even sure how your taxes are spent.

Anyway, everyday is a challenge for me. Since I'm on my own now, I have to rely on myself for virtually everything. I have to cook, dishwash, laundry, iron, clean and do my groceries myself. Well, I do still have trouble waking up in the mornings and still have to fall asleep every now and then, anytime and anywhere (especially during travel and lectures). I love sleeping so much that there was even a time that back in Manila, I was left in our car, parked already at home, after doing grocery on 2 occasions. There was even a time that I missed my stop on the way to UP Manila since I fell into a deep sleep while in an Fx. Now, I'm putting my trust on my two alarm clocks to wake me up every single duty day.

I find the food here good. Though many find it bland, I am really okay with it. It is also great how all grocery items/food have allergy warnings, freezing instructions and nutrition facts. Many say that migrants easily gain weight here because of the diet. I say, weight gain is highly dependent on your choice of food and frequency of exercise. I am proud to say that I have lost a lot of weight already in a very short period of time. Maybe it is because that I am forced to walk (because the bus costs £1.30 for any distance) and that I don't have ready meals here when I come back from duty. Oftentimes I miss my grandma because she used to do most of the stuff for me. I also miss my mom because I don't have a driver/travel/shopping buddy/financer anymore. I just tell myself that everything that I am into now will be for my own benefit--my impetus for personal growth and improvement.

I try to keep a positive attitude everyday despite of the negative world out there. People way back home may think that UK migrants are having the time of their lives being "rich" and all but they are mistaken. Everyday is a struggle. Everyday is a challenge. We work hard to earn the money that we get at the end of each month. Some may even say that we are contributing to the brain drain turned hemorrhage with the exodus of nurses abroad. They question us why we prefer to work with clients abroad rather than tending to the wounds of our own people. I say we are just human with human needs which are not satisfactorily met back home. They say that we should never forget where we came from and that there is no place like home. Nevertheless at the end of they day, I ask myself, is there really no place like "home" or there is a better place than home?

The sun is shining brightly today and with every sunrise is a new beginning and chance to change the course of my future. Everything is a matter of choice. Some people may pull you down, some may hurt you, some may take advantage of you. It's just that we have to remember that life is too precious to dwell on the bad stuff and sweating on the small suff. Though people in the periphery affects the way you perceive life, it is only us who can determine our own happiness...

...and my happiness, my current source of happiness, is the status quo.

The feeling of having to drag along a 30kg luggage along the corridors of NAIA was surreal. As seven hopeful nurses walked towards the boarding gate, excitement filled the air as the promise for a brighter future is coming to its final stage.

I told myself that enduring a long flight, everything will be worth it when I take the first step on London soil.

Bangkok's Suvarnubhuma Terminal was pristine. The bathrooms were great!

I was hoping for both of our flights to be uneventful. However, we got a bit of a problem at Bangkok as we were almost left by our plane. It was literally an "amazing race" as we ran from one end of the terminal to the other to catch the final boarding time. We felt strange as we were walking to our designated boarding gates as we did not have any other passengers walking our way. Lo and behold, when we got to the plane everyone was already there and we were the only ones who haven't settled yet. It was quite absurd because we did not here boarding announcements for our flight and the notices on the LCD screens did not indicate a boarding status. Anyway, it was a good thing that we weren't left by the airlines or else it's the end for all of us.

Airline food is always the best in international flights. I was just frustrated because I felt like they wanted to starve me with the kind of menu they had. I had already informed the flight attendant about my allergies but then again, they came serving me with shrimps, fresh tomatoes and yes, some concealed nuts in the chicken curry. I had managed to survive the "diet restriction" and Eric, my seatmate, got to enjoy my share, haha.

I had a hard time sleeping during the 11-hour flight to Heathrow. I wanted to watch dramas over my ipod but the illumination of the screen would have annoyed people around me as the cabin lights were already off after meals were served. So, I forced myself to get some sleep and fortunately I did for a short time, even having dreamt about having my 12A friends tag along with me to London.

My back ached big time. I wish we had Tempur seats.

Oh, I also had beside me somebody who looks like an British-Indian national who did not touch his special meal tray for both the evening and morning meals. I was itching to ask him for his share as his food really looked good to me. Ah, I expected him to have some kind of body odor as well, but surprisingly, he did not smell at all!

When we finally landed at Heathrow Terminal 3, I prayed that I would not wake up from this dream. It felt surreal especially when we got out of the plane and felt the different kind of environment [not to mention the drop in temperature] that UK had. This place would be our home for the next three years and for some of us, maybe the rest of our lifetime.

UK Border Security was a challenge. Since there was another Quantas flight which arrived with us, the queues at immigration were very long. We dragged along and endured standing up for a long time while at the same time observing and talking about the other people waiting in line. Talk about being big time critiques of other passengers, hehe!

It took us around 2 hours to get past the border check. Among the seven of us, it was only me who got through immigration the quickest as the rest of them had to undergo a health screening before their visas were stamped. This worried me a bit because I was the only one who was asked the least questions. I wondered I got something wrong in the process but fortunately, I did okay.

There were no other hulabaloos after border security. I though there will be a rigorous screening before we get out of the airport but surprisingly, after we got our luggages, we were off to the exits. Liz and Sharon were already waiting for us outside. We were mutually excited to see each other and after some briefing and distribution of welcome kits, we headed off the the loading area where our transpo will pick us up and bring us to our hospital.

It felt great to finally be here in London. I just wish that my lola was still alive to see me here.

Windstruck (Nae yeoja chingureul sogaehabnida - a.k.a Yeochinso literally "Let me introduce (you to) my girlfriend") is a 2004 South Korean fantasy-romantic comedy directed by Kwak Jae-yong. The film was a major success, ranking as the 8th-highest grossing Korean film of 2004.

Plot summary

The film stars Jun Ji-hyun as Officer Yeo Kyung-jin, an ambitious young female police officer serving on the Seoul police department. One day while chasing a purse snatcher, she accidentally captures Go Myung-woo (played by Jang Hyuk), a physics teacher at an all-girls school, who was actually trying to catch the thief. Later, Myung-woo discovers the stolen purse, but just as he picks it up, Kyung-jin spots him and tries to arrest him again. Kyung-jin is then given the job of escorting Myung-woo through a dangerous district, only to be distracted when she tries to break up a meeting between Russian Mafia and Korean gangsters. With Myung-woo handcuffed to her, Kyung-jin almost single-handedly brings down the two rival gangs (although she is helped when she accidentally causes the groups to start shooting at each other).

The first half of the film, told from Myung-woo's point of view, details the couple's growing attraction and love for each other, which climaxes with a trip to the countryside where Myung-woo tells Kyung-jin that if he were ever to die, he wanted to come back to earth as the wind. Soon after, he is almost killed in a freak automobile accident, but Kyung-jin saves his life.

The film takes a turn into the fantasy genre in its second half after Myung-woo is accidentally shot and killed by another officer (although the situation is such that Kyung-jin thinks that it was her shot that killed him) as Kyung-jin chases after a criminal. Kyung-jin falls into a suicidal depression over his death and attempts to kill herself several times, almost succeeding when she throws herself off a building, only to be saved when a giant balloon floats under her. Soon after, she experiences visitations from Myung-woo, who appears as the wind, sending her messages and, at one point, he even appears in her dreams in order to give her the will to live after she is nearly shot to death by a criminal.

Ultimately the film follows a similar path set out by the American film Ghost with Myung-woo and Kyung-jin communicating and sharing one final gesture of love before he moves on to the afterlife. Myung-woo said that he will whisper, when she hears him whisper in the wind, she will meet someone with a soul like him. Myung-woo told Kyung-jin that he will always be beside her inside a book with a photo left by Myung-woo in the restaurant before he rushed to meet Kyung-jin who was chasing the insane criminal.

In the first half of the film, Myung-woo told that his only memory of high school was his high school trip. The book and the photo is found and returned to Kyung-jin in the police station. The photo showed that on Myung-woo's trip, Kyung-jin was nearby. This proved Myung-woo's "I'm always beside you" was true to Kyung-jin. Kyung-jin rushed out to locate the finder of the book, ultimately ending up in the train station, where she is saved by Cha Tae-Hyun's character (credited as The Guy). Myung-woo whispered that The Guy is the one with the soul like him. Kyung-jin whispers that "he is always beside her."

Connections to My Sassy Girl

Windstruck shares the same leading actress and director as an earlier popular South Korean film, My Sassy Girl. As a result, Windstruck contains several subtle references to the previous film. For example, a photo of Jun Ji-hyun from My Sassy Girl is visible on Kyung-jin's piano (while playing the piano). Plus the final scene of Windstruck, in which Kyung-jin meets her new soul mate (played by Cha Tae-hyun, the male lead from My Sassy Girl) on a train platform, is similar to the beginning of My Sassy Girl and her character from My Sassy Girl is distraught over the death of her true love.

Also, when Kyung-jin is chasing Sin Chang-su she tells a random citizen to act as a steppingstone to climb over the wall just like when she accidentally steps on a runaway soldier (played by the same actor) when she and Tae-hyun visited the amusement park during her birthday.

Jun Ji-hyun plays the piano in both movies.

However, "Windstruck" is not a full 'prequel' to "My Sassy Girl" in the literal sense of the term.

My Notes:

I never expected this movie to make me cry. This is an absolute tear-jerker especially with the last 10 minutest of the film. It makes me again think over if I am to watch the drama 49 days because I feel that it has the same ending as this movie. Filipinos usually commemorate a person's death after 40 days. As for Koreans, they believe that the souls of their beloved stay for 49 days on this earth before finally moving on to the next world.

I like the fact that Kyung-jin as the lead actress, was portrayed having a very strong personality. Most of the Asian dramas and movies I have watched depict women being weak and scenes are always the damsel-in-distress type. Ji-Hyun, who also played the strong-willed lead actress in My Sassy Girl, exhibited a similar personality though a more bubbly and exciting one in this film. The action scenes during the latter part of movie reminded me of City Hunter's Lee Yoon-Sung because Kyung-jin braved to fight criminal acts where his counterparts took a step back. I like the fact that his partner was in awe of her because of her bravery.

Since both lead charaters faced their own dying experience, hospital scenes cannot be avoided. Again, I was particular with the nitty-gritty details of filming emergency/medical scenes. I'm frustrated again [and again and again] that they keep on defibrillating patients on asytole. FYI: only ventricular fibrillation and tachycardia are shockable rhythms. However, the CPR scene where Kyung-jin was resuscitating Myung-woo was satisfactory as she did not forget the head-tilt, chin-lift maneuver.

Favorite Scenes and Lines:

"I guess I was the wind in my former life. I wish to fly like the wind."

"When I am away, think of the wind as me."

"So is this wind you?"

"If I die, I wish to be the wind."

At Kyung-jin's home on the last day of October and Myung-wol's 49th death day. :

As Kyung-jin opens the window, winds blew in.

And the paper airplane that Myung-wol used to throw at her came gushing into the window.

It's Myung-wol's last day on earth and was the wind that he wished to be.

She turns around and sees Myung-wol.

"Somebody granted my request [to be the wind]."

"I can see you."

Kyung-Jin cries in disbelief.

"I have to go now. I'm glad that I can see you one last time before I leave for good."

Kyung-Jin resists and tells him that she'll go with him. Myung-wol answers "no".

"Your time hasn't ended yet. You have many days left to live. Don't feel sad for me. We can meet together again. You can feel it, I'm sure. When we get together later, tell me something happy and funny that you have experienced in you life. And when you feel me whisper in the wind, you'll get to meet somebody whose spirit is like mine. "

"Now, let me go with my heart full of your love." to which Kyung-jin responds "I won't be sad anymore. Ill think you are always here by my side. Come and see me when you miss me. You can come back as the wind! You can come back as the wind!"

(This is where the title Windstruck was probably taken.)

Scene at the train station after Kyung-jin ran after the one who returned the book that Myung-wol was supposed to give him at the night he was mistakenly shot dead by a fellow cop.

"He whispered to me in the wind."

"Let me introduce my girlfriend. She went through enormous pain because of me and cried a lot. Her name is Kyung-Jin. Everytime I say her name, a weird feeling takes over me. There's surely something about her."

Another character dies. A bucket of tears for me in the end.

Virgin Snow (2007)

Min moves to Japan following his professor father.

One day at a local shrine, he meets a beautiful, long-haired Japanese girl with innocent eyes. Her name is Nanae, and she is an aspiring painter. Min falls for her at first sight. He longs for her but soon learns that Nanae attends the same school to which Min has just transferred.

Min befriends Nanae, and despite the cultural and language barriers, they become fast friends, taking in the famous sites of Kyoto. Their feelings for each other grow, and on a visit to a ceramic store, Nanae promises some day to paint Min's portrait on the pottery that is made by him. Min continues to learn the craft from his father, and he comes to realize that he has to put all of his heart, the kind of love he feels for Nanae, into making the pottery for it not to crack.

Because of his grandmother's sudden illness, Min has to return to Korea to be with her. He cannot get in touch with Nanae, and he becomes anxious. After his grandmother regains her health, he hurries back to Japan to look for Nanae, but she is nowhere to be found. Have his true feelings for Nanae not reached her? Why has Nanae disappeared without a word?

My Notes:

This is a Korean-Japanese collaboration and is one of my favorite Asian movies at the moment. Made me remind of Kim Na-Na of City Hunter because of the namesake and Kim Bum of Boys Over Flowers due to the pottery scenes.

Treasure keepsakes from special people and don't just give them away.

Love can break through language barriers. Learning a language is easy especially if done out of love. Learning Korean is a bit hard but I really like studying it. I wonder if I should learn Japanese as well. Many people say that it's easy to learn a well.

Funny how "epiphany" scenes occur in most romance movies and dramas. It's as if a character is struck by lightning as he/she remembers a memory that will determine the next scenes in the film.

Favorite Scenes:

Trying to converse with each other through phrases and sign language.

Sweet. Love is constant in every language.

First Date. Snow. Promise.

Final Scene. This was also painted by Nanae on the porcelain dish made by Min.

Lost and Found (2009)

TV writer Ji-ho (Park Jin-Hee) has been secretly in love with Min-woo (Lee Ki-Woo) for the last 10 years. After a night of binge-drinking, she wakes up to face the worst day of her life. She wakes up to find that she has just gotten fired for low viewer ratings. On her way home her purse then gets snatched and Ji-ho pursues the thief. Then suddenly, when things seem that they can't go any worse, Ji-ho gets hit by a car.

But the chain of unfortunate events suddenly turns out to be a God-sent present. The man who hit her with the car turns out to be the very man she's been in love with all these years, Min-woo. She then pretends to have amnesia.

My Notes:

Ji-ho came running for Min-woo for a long time but ended up with her childhood friend who loved her deeply since they were young. It's the usual love-was-just-beside-me-all-along movie. It just shows that we cannot force our love to people even how hard we try if it is not really meant to be. Sometimes, fate can be so cruel that we fail to recognize the person who really loves us the most.

One Fine Spring Day (2001)

Sound engineer Sang Woo meets local DJ Eun Soo on a recording trip in the quest for nature's voice. They succeed in capturing various sensual sounds as well as each other's tenderness. Their love flourishes as spring comes along, but Sang Woo's ever intensifying passion often reminds Eun Soo of her tragic past. She knows only too well how passion can vanish like a sound: how love always surrenders to its expiry...

My Notes:

The story is extremely boring not just it developed very slowly but because there was nothing new with the plot. It dragged me along as I waited for sleep to get me. I don't know why they financed and produced this movie.

L for Love, L for Lies (2008)

Stephy originally was a very lucky girl. She opened a sweets shop after graduating college with her longtime boyfriend Jun (it didn't say the name of who is acting him). Stephy thought that after everything settled down, she would then marry Jun. But of course the good times never last long. One day Stephy met her old classmate Alice Zeng (Taiwanese actress, from Jay Chou's Secret). Alice liked Jun's hard working and nice personality, and completely not caring about Stehpy's feelings; decided to take Jun for her own. Stephy not only lost the long time love of her life, but she also lost the sweet shop that she has worked so hard on.

Leila is Stephy's good friend. She has a long time boyfriend Terry. The pretty and attractive Leila would often time have some short relationships with other men while concealing all this from the introvert and slow Terry. It's not that Leila doesn't love Terry. She always thinks that Terry will never leave her. As for Leila, she doesn't want to be someone who holds onto one single relationship.

After breaking up with Jun, Stephy found a job as a make-up artist in the mall. Her boss Kuen (again, no actress name) suddenly announced her engagement. She invited everyone to out to celebrate. At the party, Stephy realized that her boss's really young fiancé is very familiar. She recognized him as her old neighbor Alex Fong, but Alex keeps pretending that he doesn't know Stephy.

A month later, Kuen's wedding was suddenly canceled. Stephy found out from coworkers that Kuen's life savings were all stolen from the fiancé Alex, who also disappeared. Stephy unexpectedly met Alex on the streets. Alex already has a new target. He finds Stephy following him. Alex though Stephy was going to sue him, but never expected Stephy to have a request from him. She would like to use good money and hire him to cheat with Alice. Stephy promised that Alice will have to taste what it's like to loose all your money and boyfriend.

As an experienced liar, Alex successfully "wooed" Alice. Watching Alice like someone else, Jun decided to make up with Stephy and asked for a new relationship. But the time has passed for Stephy. She has no more feelings for Jun because deep in her heart, she unknowingly fell in love with Alex.

As for always having successful relationships, Leila finally felt tired and decided to set up a stable relationship with Terry. But Terry tells Leila that he wants to break up. In the past 6th months, concealing the fact from Leila had another relationship with his coworker's girlfriend Miki. "Stepping on two boats", Terry finally decided to let go of Leila and chose Miki for a new relationship. Always thinking that she was in control of everything, Leila never thought that she would be played. Who would have thought that this was all quietly building up?

The 7 main characters in the story, all were excited in the game of love. But in the game of love, there are no rules. Just like this world, there is no strange love, just strange people.

My Notes:

Again, a very tragic ending for an Asian movie. I thought the conman will be with the lead actress in the end and be a changed man forever but unfortunately he died as a group of bastards ambushed him the night he was looking for Stephy. It was unfortunate because he has just decided to change and follow his love. I also thought that Stephy finally had the chance to be his one true love but it ended that her best buddy, Leila, fell in love unknowingly to Stephy's one true love, Jun. Funny ending because there was a prior scene in the movie where Stephy said that it was impossible for her and Leila to have similar tastes in men and fall in love with the same guy.

The movie had the traditional bad-guy-softens-up-for-love theme. There was one not so steamy love scene during the first few minutes of the movie but there were none after it. I thought that this was another perverted movie but well, it turned out to be fine after all. It was sad that I expected that the conman and Stephy will be in love with each other in the end.

Why post-mortem? Well, most of the Korean films I've watched recently involved either the lead male or female to die in the end. Such pathetic and heart-breaking endings.

White Night (2009)

A pawnbroker is found murdered in a remote town in a derelict building. three people come under suspicion but all of them have perfect alibis and the investigation comes to a standstill. Almost fifteen years pass and the lead inspector decides to reinvestigate. Fifteen years earlier, the victim's son killed his father to save his beloved from being raped by him. And the girl killed her mother when she found out the boy had killed his father. For fifteen years, the boy has been eliminating anyone that tries to interfere with her life. He exists as a shadow, requiring nothing from her in return. She knows what he has done for her sake but looks away from it. As their love grows, more crimes happen. As their sin grows, the inspector's chase comes closer to them.

My Notes:

It was dragging during the first 20-30 minutes of the film until the it gradually climaxed with the revelation of the real murder suspect of the pawnbroker who is his own son. The eventually died in the end as he committed suicide after a long run from the prosecutor. The prosecutor was sorry for not catching him soon as the prosecution time had already lapsed that very same day. He fell from the deck and through the glass roof where a party was being held for the opening of the girl's shop. He ended up being denied by the girl when she was asked by her soon-to-be step-daughter if she knew the boy. The prosecutor, knowing the girl very well stated that she was the boy's entire life.

Lover boy ends up dead.

The Naked Kitchen (2009)

Today is Mo-rae and Sang-in's one-year wedding anniversary. After a busy morning preparing for the celebration, Mo-rae goes to an art gallery to find a gift for Sang-in. At the gallery, she meets a complete stranger and the two unexpectedly have sex. Mo-rae returns home feeling anxious and guilty about the incident and cannot help but confess it to Sang-in. That night, a visitor arrives at their house; Du-rae, who came from Paris to help Sang-in with his new business. To Mo-rae's shock, he is the man from the gallery. He temporarily lives with the couple in their house and a risky love triangle begins...

My Notes:

It's funny how Mo-Rae actually had sex with Du-Rae during their first encounter at the gallery. Probably she was swept by her emotions as her husband was not really physically intimate with him. Du-Rae looked good and treated her well while he was living in their house which is the reason why he fell for him.

Mo-Rae and Sang-in had a divorce in the end after discovering that her relationship with Du-Rae did not end after her confession and after her knowing about his real identity.

I'm a bit sure that this may happen in real life especially with couples having problem with intimacy. Well, it's just natural for people to seek physical contact especially when they are already married. Probably most couples divorce because they haven't lived up to their vows during matrimony.

Min-Ah acted well here, playing innocently with Goong's star Ji-Hoon. I loved the scene where he sang Sarrang Bakkae No Mula in French! This was the same song Jan-Di sang in Boys Over Flowers during Jun-Pyo's birthday celebration.

The ending was quite vague as Sang-in was telling something about finding Durae. He also asked Mo-Rae if he could court her again after just being divorced for three months, saying that he couldn't resist liking this pregnant woman.

Hello, Schoolgirl (2008)

KIM Yun-woo works as a low level civil servant in a district office. Although he is thirty, he is still quite innocent for his age and has been on numerous unfruitful blind dates in search of a suitable wife. After moving to a new place, he often runs into HAN Soo-young, a high school student who lives downstairs. HAN Soo-young is a cheerful and eccentric eighteen-year-old who lives with her mother that acts like a princess.

Meanwhile, KANG Sook has just started to work at the district office straight after graduating from high school and falls head over heels for KWON Ha-kyung, a melancholic woman who always smokes in the same spot, because of her beautiful smile. Ha-kyung is still holding onto an old flame and keeps on looking for traces of that love every day. KANG Sook continues to keep wooing her, irregardless of her living in the past. Can their futures lead to a happy ending?

My Notes:

Yun-woo was like a pedophile here, hehe. He looks really older than Soo-Young that he can be already his hyung as he was older by more than a decade over her.

The movie is all about being persistent about your dreams and also about pursuing your love. The theme is the traditional "age doesn't matter" and family issues such as death of parents and parent's not wanting their children to marry someone who did not grow up with their parents. Well, I've observed that Korean parents are very particular about the background of the family their children are marrying into. It may be against the modern viewpoint about marriage but I guess they really just want the best for their children's futures.

Someone Special (2004)

Despite having dated a number of women, professional baseball player DONG Chi-sung has never had a first love. "I always think it's love, but sooner or later I find out it's not..." Sure enough, his latest girlfriend dumps him, and then on the same day, he goes to the doctor and finds out he has a malignant tumor, with only three months to live. It's September now, so he won't even live to see the new year. With his mind in a tailspin, he goes to a friend's bar to drink away his pain.

Not a heavy drinker by habit, Chi-sung passes out, and wakes up to find himself in a hotel room with the bartender, a rather quirky woman he's mostly ignored until now. "How did I get here?" he asks her in confusion, and she tells him she folded him up and carried him in a box. Then she starts telling him about how he acts when he's drunk, before leaving him alone in the hotel room. What a strange woman...

The next day he goes to baseball practice, completely unable to concentrate. Formerly a successful pitcher in university, he was moved to the outfield after a shoulder injury, and then demoted to the minor leagues. On his way home, he hears an oddly familiar story being told on a radio program devoted to "confessional love stories." Someone calling herself "Writing Princess" is talking about carrying a man in a box to a hotel room, and talking to him there. What kind of woman is this, anyway?...

HAN Yi-yeon works part time in a bar and at a coffee shop, and listens to radio programs as a hobby. Ten years earlier, a young student in a baseball uniform moved into her neighborhood, and from that day on she has slowly fallen in love with him from afar. But she had never found the opportunity to talk to him, until the night when he came alone into the bar where she works. She is shocked to see him start crying, and then after just three drinks he passes out.

Without much choice she takes him to a nearby hotel and looks after him there. Seeing him sleep so peacefully, she just wants to stay together with him for as long as she can. But when he wakes up, all the words she wants to say get stuck in her throat, and all she can do is tell him that he's a well-behaved drunk. Frustrated and embarrassed, she leaves him there and goes back home. She decides to send a postcard -- or five -- to her favorite radio programs...

Although Chi-sung angrily confronts Yi-yeon about the "radio incident," it provides her with an opportunity. One radio station sends her a free mobile phone as a gift... Chi-sung has recently lost his, so she stops by his home to give it to him. Another radio station sends her free movie tickets, so she takes him along. While at the theater, Chi-sung runs into his old girlfriend and describes Yi-yeon as "just a woman I know." Is that all?! Is there any way that she can become "someone special" to him?...

My Notes:

This is the best movie where a medical malpractice lawsuit should be filed. Chi-sung mortgaged his house and threw away his career because of a wrong diagnosis made by the doctor through an incorrect x-ray plate which was of another patients.

The scene where the x-ray was being explained to Chi-sung was funny because though they were talking about the lungs having a malignant tumor, the plate shown was that of a flat plate abdominal x-ray. It's ridiculous how scenes like this are overlooked and a lot of medical films and dramas commit the same mistake over and over again. (Pedia oxygen masks used for adults, intubated characters speak, defibrillating patients on asystole...and the list goes on)

I was expecting Chi-sung to die...but the diagnosis was cleared up eventually and he did not really have a terminal lung cancer.

Nothing much really happened here. The usual love is just beside me all along theme.

The lead actor almost ended up dead.

Memorable lines:

Chi-sung to Yi-yeon at the hotel: Why am I here? How did you get me here, I'm heavy?...

Yi-yeon: I folded you and put you in a box...

Love Me Not (2006)

Julian has lived off with the money he lures from his rich female customers. But now he faces usurious debts from a hasty expansion of his business, and he will be killed unless he clears the debt in one month. The only way to save himself is to pretend to be the long-lost brother of an heiress and kill her to get her huge fortune. Min, the blind heiress, cold-hearted like Julian, slowly opens herself to him, and he, too, falls for her. But Julian has to pay his creditor and what makes it worse for him is that the illness that took Min's eyesight relapsed, threatening her life.

Moon Geum-Young has matured a lot in this movie just like in Innocent Steps. I love the way how Julian actually fell for Min and forgets about his huge debt although it costed his life because of "sarang" (love).

Both Julian and Min died in the end. Julian being stabbed to death by his creditor and Min due to the brain tumor which relapsed.

The final scene was in a snowy field where they meet again and celebrate their eternal love.

I love you. I love you. I love you. I could've written it 1000 times and shown it to you. Then what would you have said?"

I Give My First Love To You (2009)

Takuma, a boy who is told he will die before he's 20, and Mayu, a girl who is in love with him...

The story begins when they are little kids. Mayu, whose father is a doctor, meets Takuma, who is hospitalized in her father's workplace. They develop feelings for each other, but Mayu learns of Takuma's grave illness and that he will die before he turns 20. The distraught children make one promise for an uncertain future.

Time passes, and the girl becomes a young woman, and the boy, a young man. Mayu continues to support and love Takuma. On the other hand, Takuma, who knows his days are numbered, pushes away his feelings for Mayu and distances himself from her. He cannot stand to see her cry or hurt her more than he already has. Then Mayu meets another man who has feelings for her, and Takuma meets a woman who has the same illness, and their feelings for each other begin to waver.

Misunderstandings, unsaid thoughts, the frustrations and chagrin of youth... What will become of their love while the clock keeps ticking away in Takuma's life?

My Notes:

This Japanese movie got through me and so I included it in this post as well.

Tragic love life. Period. It's hard knowing that your love will die anytime soon and planning for the future is not feasible. This films shows how love really knows no boundaries...even death itself.

Mayu is played by Inoue Mao, the same girl we fell in love with in Hana Yori Dango. I really love her acting skills as well as her smile and charms. Takuma on the other hand is played by Okada Masaki. Though I'm not really familiar with Japanese actors, I find Okada's packaging appealing though he's acting in this film was quite inhibited. Maybe it was because he had to play the part of a boy with cardiomyopathy.

Memorable line:

Takuma to Mayu after the allegedly breaking up: I did not know that we broke up.

Cardiac disease is really deadly. Another victim dies.

...ing (2003)

An ordinary high school student, Min-Ah (Im Su-Jeong) lives with her mother (Lee Mi-Suk) who occasionally acts like a child. Min-Ah is a shy girl who does not have a lot of friends. That is why she doesn't enjoy school that much. The only thing that is fun for her is to watch Ki-soo, the boy who works in front of her school controlling traffic. Hes a little crazy. Min-Ah lives with the hope that someday she will also meet the fateful love of her life, just like the love that Ki-soo once had with an older student from her school.

One day, a new family moves into the villa one floor below Min-ah. It's the family of Young-Jae (Kim Rae-Won), a college student. Young-jae tries to be overly friendly because they are new neighbors. Min-Ah's mother prematurely assumes that Min-Ah has a new boyfriend, and Young-Jae simply goes along with her. One day, Min-Ah falls for one of Young-jae's tricks.

My Notes:

Min-ah had a congenital deformity of the left hand that made her aloof all her life. She was also dying but the disease was really not clearly explained in the film.

Kim Rae-Won's funny acting skills are really appropriate for this film as his smile will actually brighten anyone with a terminal illness. It was just unfair that he learned about Min-ah's condition when she was already in her death bed.

The ending was the usual scene of the dying person leaving something for loved ones. In this case, since Min-ah was very good in painting, he left as scrap book for Young-Jae which depicted the many memories of them together.

It must be very difficult seeing the one you love slowly fading away right before your very eyes. Sad enough to put you into depression.

Heavenly Forest (2007)

"Heavenly Forest" is about a photographer named Makoto (Hiroshi Tamaki), who travels to New York during Christmas to look for his best friend, Shizuru (Aoi Miyazaki).

The two first met when Makoto attended his university entrance ceremony. Due to his inferiority complex, Makoto tends to shy away from other people but Shizuru managed to make him open up to her. Because of their friendship, Shizuru also ended up taking an interest in photography and the two often went to a forest to take pictures.

Shizuru wants nothing else but to be by Makoto's side so when he started liking another girl called Miyuki (Meisa Kuroki), Shizuru decided that she too will like Miyuki and becomes her friend. One day, Makoto asked Shizuru what present she'd like to receive for her birthday. Shizuru, who wanted to enter a photography competition, had an idea to take a picture of the two of them kissing in a forest. Makoto agreed to do this and the two kissed for the very first time. Ever since that day, however, Shizuru disappears from Makoto's life.

My Notes:

Ooops, another Japanese film caught me.

This is one of my favorites so far. It really touched my heart that I was drawn to tears with the last 10 minutes of the film.

This literally showed how love can kill a person.

Favorite scenes:

Shizuru finally becoming a woman. Growing up means dying for her.

This was the picture taken for a photography contest and as present for Shizuru's birthday. This was also Makoto's first ever kiss and Shizuru's last. This was the day when Shizuru left and disappeared.

He Was Cool (2004)

The film is based on a novel written by Guiyeoni. The story is about a cheerful high school student named Han Ye-Won (Jung Da Bin). She is a sweet, clumsy and warm girl. On the other side, there is Ji Eun-Sung (Song Seung Hun), a student from vocational school and well-known as a bully. He is hot-tempered and rude but deep inside he is longing to be loved.

One day, clumsily, Ye-Won leaves a message on the school website to reply to Eun-Sung's impolite message. She is shocked when someone calls her mobile and threatens her. Gradually, her best friend, Lee Kyung-Won, tells her who Eun-Sung is. He sends Ye-Won a message on her mobile: He will wait for her in front of the main gate. She is so scared that she and Kyung-Won decide to jump over the school wall. Unfortunately, the moment Ye-Won jumps, Eun-Sung is standing exactly at the other side of wall. She falls on him and their lips meet accidentally. Raising his voice, Eun-Sung asks her to take responsibility; she is astonished. His friend explains that Eun-Sung has never even held hands with a girl. Since she is the first girl who kissed him, as a consequence, she must marry him.
The story continues very fast. At the beginning, Ye-won does not have any feelings for Eun-Sung. She even rejects his invitation to come to his birthday party. Unknowingly, Eun-Sung has fallen in love with her; but he is not the kind of guy who knows how to express his inner feelings. He is jealous when Ye-Won is approached by other guys but he does not know how to be with someone he loves.

Although he is rude and bad-tempered, Eun-Sung always pardons Ye-Won's faults and clumsiness. One thing he couldn't bear was when he found out that Ye-Won went out with Kim Han-Sung, his senior and the one he hates a lot. The broken-hearted Eun-Sung decides to leave Korea following his mother to the USA.

A year later Ye-Won is seen with Kim Han-Sung, discussing her if she is scared for her SATs. It seems to be that they are in a relationship at this point. During her SAT, the hearing portion of the exam brings up a quote from Romeo and Juliet bring Ye-Won back to the memory of her and Eun-Sung in the park in front of the telephone booth where, no matter what, they would re-unite at the first snowfall. At this point Ye-Won stops what she is doing and runs to the park. She waits there as the scene rolls back to the fantasy she had a year ago and she starts to cry as Eun-Sung is not there. As she turns around, a rabbit is hopping towards her, the same rabbit she gave to Eun-Sung. She looks up and Eun-Sung is there. She yells at him saying "Why did you leave without saying goodbye?" And Eun-Sung replied "True love requires no words."

The film ends with Eun Sung's childhood memory of some opening event of an elementary school where the only kid that would kiss Eun-Sung was Ye-Won. An interesting aspect to this is that earlier on in the film, Ye-won uses Eun-Sung's cellphone to make a mini-video of her bedroom. There she captures footage of an old photo from when she was little, showing her and a friend. It turns out that this friend is actually the little Eun-Sung, hinting at the connection between the two. When Eun-Sung watches the video on his cell towards the end of the film, he is surprised to see himself and remembers that Ye-Won was THAT little girl.

My Notes:

As this was one of Song Seung Hun's earlier films, I'm quite amazed that he's really a handsome actor. He's like an earlier version of what Lee Min-Ho can now do in his action scenes. If I watched this in 2004, I wouldn't have guessed that SSH will end up in lead roles in My Princess and East of Eden. He's acting skills have improved so much since this movie. Jung Da-Bin looked young here also and I can't believe that she's the same actress in Attic Cat who looked really ridiculous to me.

Feel good movie which is still worth watching. Cold-heart being softened by real love and genuine trust. I really loved the ending scene.

Daddy Long Legs (2005)

Young-mi (Ha Ji Won), is a young woman who has lost her parents and struggling to fend for herself. She receives the assistance of a stranger who pays her university fees and sends her gifts. She affectionately nicknames her benefactor "Daddy-Long-Legs".

After completing her studies and initially struggling for work, Young-mi eventually obtains her dream job as a program writer in a nationally-syndicated radio station. On top of this, it has been arranged for her to stay rent-free in a nice house that the owner vacated due to health reasons. Young-mi believes that her good fortune is the work of her "Daddy-Long-Legs".

One day, Young-mi receives an email from the owner of the house. The email was date-stamped to arrive at the house's computer on that specific day, though it was written and sent a year earlier.

The email details a love story written by the unseen owner of the house. The writer confesses that she has secretly been in love with a guy since her school days. In order to be near him, she worked hard to obtain a place in the same course at the institution he was studying in. Although she didn't have the courage to introduce herself, she was happy to see him every day. The writer explains that when he got a job at a radio station, she followed him there. But then she was diagnosed with a terminal disease which would cause her to lose her memory and then die. The writer's greatest fear is not of dying, but of losing her memory, which is why she wrote the email to be sent to herself in the future.

Young-mi is deeply touched by the story and decides to air its contents via the national radio program to locate the young man with whom the owner of the house was in love. The story is serialized and dramatized on the air, quickly becoming an audience favorite.

Meanwhile, Young-mi meets Kim Jun Ho (Yeon Jung Hoon), who works as a librarian in the radio station. They spend time together and Young-mi begins to fall in love with him. Young-mi then discovers that Jun Ho is the love interest mentioned in the email. Young-mi decides to end their relationship, guilty with the knowledge that someone somewhere out there has been in love with him for years.

Young-mi also investigates her "Daddy-Long-Legs", eventually learning that her current job and accommodations were the decisions of the radio station's director. She confronts him, but it turns out that the director was only acting on behalf of his younger brother, who chose to provide Young-mi with her school fees and asked that she be given her current job and his house to live in. It turns out the director's brother is Jun Ho, who is also the writer of the email. Jun Ho had switched genders when writing the email, and lost all of his earlier memories of Young-mi when they were students together and he loved her from afar; when they met in the radio station's library, it was the first time for both.
Young-mi is devastated by this news. She reconnects with Jun Ho and they spend as much time together before his illness relapses and he dies.

My Notes:

The moral of the story is to never to be hesitant to profess one's feelings to the person we love as it might be too late. Persistence is the key. Staying in the shadow of persons we love and them not knowing it is most brutal not just to the person holding it back but also to the person who should have been receive the love.

Well, another character ends up dead.

Kang Bok-gu (Bi (Rain)) is a skilled K-1 fighter. However, he has never tried to win a single fight, as he has no desire for the attention that will come with a title. He lives in the same house with Han Da-jung (Kim Sa-rang), who saved him from a fire when they were teenagers. Racked by guilt that she became scarred as a result and knowing her love for him, Bok-gu intends to spend the rest of his life with her, even though he is not in love with her. After years of being estranged from his older brother, Kang Min-gu, Bok-gu finally reconciles with him. However, the reunion is short-lived. Min-gu attempts suicide upon learning of the engagement of his ex-girlfriend, Cha Eun-suk (Shin Min-a).

Eun-suk is an upcoming actress. Caught in a compromising position with Kim Joon-sung (Lee Ki-woo), heir to a large conglomerate, she is forced into an engagement with him. As Min-gu lies in a vegetative state, Bok-gu learns of his relationship with Eun-suk. Min-gu had taken care of Eun-suk and her family, often helping them out financially, before Eun-suk became a famous actress. Bok-gu incorrectly assumes that Eun-suk is a social climber who broke up with Min-gu upon achieving success because she thought he would be a burden. Bok-gu blames her for Min-gu's current state and vows revenge.

Bok-gu starts by getting himself hired as Eun-suk's bodyguard. Then using the same method as his brother (as detailed in Min-gu's diary), Bok-gu woos her. Reluctantly, Eun-suk starts to fall for Bok-gu. To complicate matters, Bok-gu finds himself falling for Eun-suk as well. On the day of her engagement, Bok-gu persuades Eun-suk to run away with him, but her family and Joon-sung announce that she has been kidnapped. When Bok-gu is arrested, Eun-suk publicly acknowledges her relationship with him to secure his release, knowing full well that the ensuing scandal will ruin her career.

Bok-gu completes his revenge by revealing to Eun-suk his identity as Min-gu's brother and his plans to ruin her. Eun-suk is devastated not only by this news, but even more so when she sees Min-gu in his current state. Euns-suk insists on taking over the care of Min-gu despite the protests of Bok-gu, who is saddened by what he has done and does not want Eun-suk to throw her life away caring for an invalid. As Eun-suk stubbornly continues to visit and care for Min-gu, Bok-gu realises the truth about their relationship. Bok-gu finds out that Min-gu had been the one to leave Eun-suk, fearing he would stand in the way of her success. Eun-suk had been relentlessly and faithfully searching for Min-gu and leaving phone messages for him. Overcome by guilt for what he has done to Eun-suk, Bok-gu moves Min-gu away to prevent Eun-suk from seeing them again.

A year passes...Eun-suk has left the spotlight. No longer an actress, her family runs a karaoke centre while she holds a regular job. When her car breaks down, she pulls into the auto repair shop where Bok-gu is working and meets him again. He tells her that Min-gu has died. She is grief-stricken but, when Bok-gu drops his cell phone and she happens to pick it up and open it, she sees a recent picture of Min-gu and knows that Bok-gu is lying. She goes to Bok-gu's house and re-unites with Min-gu, who has awoken from his coma and is not able to speak, but clearly recognizes Eun-suk and is overjoyed to see her. Despite Bok-gu's protests, she decides to take Min-gu away to a house outside the city to care for him herself . Bok-gu and Da-jung pay a visit on Min-gu's birthday. It is apparent to everyone there that Bok-gu and Eun-suk love each other. Min-gu also realizes this and tries to drive Eun-suk away by being difficult and throwing fits. He has a health relapse and before he dies he asks Bok-gu to love Eun-suk and take care of her.

Because Bok-gu's guilt won't allow him to be with his brother's former girlfriend, Bok-gu and Eun-suk realize their love is doomed, but they agree to forget everything for just one carefree day and night together before parting for good. They promise each other to live well and to succeed in their future careers.

Joon-sung, who had financed Eun-suk's last movie, releases it and she is thrust back into the limelight. She also decides to give Joon-sung a chance. Another year passes. Eun-suk's acting career has taken off again. There is speculation that she will marry Joon-sung. Bok-gu, too, has achieved fame after winning a championship fight and he has saved money to open his own auto shop. He still misses Eun-suk but carries on as promised, content that she is happy.

Then, Eun-suk disappears and Joon-sung goes to Bok-gu seeking help to find her. Concerned, Bok-gu goes to look for Eun-suk at the place they had spent their last day together. Trekking through the snow, Bok-gu finally finds Eun-suk, half-frozen and miles from shelter. She had tried to keep her promise to succeed, but was unable to forget her love for him. Bok-gu tries to carry her to safety, but weighed down by her and hampered by the heavy snow, he has to stop. He hugs her tight to warm her but both eventually succumb to the cold. They are finally reunited in death.

I was quite curious about A Love to Kill because of the clip that I have watched at YouTube. Since I haven't really got over City Hunter, another drama about revenge was great. In this drama, the lead male character, Bok-gu used his invalid brother's diary to plot against Eun-suk who is his brother's woman whom he thought was the one who abandoned his "hyung" causing him to fall of the roof one day. Bok-gu re-enacted every event he found in his brother's diary to make Eun-suk fall for him which made the story really interesting.

Rain and Min-ah are really good actors. It was as if it was an automatic response for their lacrimal glands to produce tears as the scene requires. It was so natural that viewers are also moved and drawn into tears. Rain can even smile and cry at the same time as his character required a strong façade on the outside but a sensitive heart inside. Min-ah and her ever beautiful big eyes and charming smile never fail to captivate viewers like in her recent drama, My Girlfriend is a Gumiho and movie Naked Kitchen.

Revenge plots are somehow overused in today's dramas and more often than not, the one who wants to take revenge takes a 360-degree turn when love finally comes into the picture. I thought that ALTK will follow suite similar dramas of its kind but it's final episode took an unexpected turn as Bok-gu and Eun-suk decided to part from each other. The ending was like Romeo and Juliet as we find both of them dying in the winter snow. The narration in the last episode was so touching:

The elder brother was the father, the mother. He was the boy's whole life. One day, the elder brother, without leaving a word, left the boy because he didn't listen to him.

One day, 10 years later, the elder brother returned to the boy's side. But the elder brother because of a girl, jumped and left the face of this earth in front of the boy.

The boy had a girl by his side. She was the very same girl who had caused his brother to jump. He returned all the suffering his elder brother had undergone because of her. He wanted her to die. He detested and hated the girl.

The boy also remembered the situation then. If that was the case then, the boy only wished for the girl not to get hurt at all. He earnestly hoped that the girl would be safe and sound. Long before the girl liked the boy, for the boy, the girl was love.

  *Bok-Gu, after being ambushed by gangsters with Eun-suk coming to rescue him. Eun-suk was threatened by the gansters and was almost hit hard if not for Bok-Gu blocking and protecting her.*

He remembered the girl's crystal clear eyes. He didn't want to look into the girls eyes until the revenge was over. He didn't want to ever look into the girl's eyes. The boy had already realized his mistake from the start. This sort of girl, he should never have pretended to love her.

The boy and the girl met again. In order not to love each other again, they met again.

The boy and girl kept on asking questions and giving replies to each other. After all, they would forget it all tomorrow and cannot keep it in their memory.

Time cruelly slipped away from the boy and girl-time that they will never have again. That was how they spent their remaining time together.

The boy and girl went their separate ways. What they have is time that can't be forgotten and will never end.

It's uncertain if the girl really returned to her place-if she kept the promise of forgetting everything and to be happy. We have no way of knowing.

Although it was bitterly cold and windy, the boy left once more. Nobody could make him stay, deep in winter, with spring still distant.

Winter passed and spring came, the winter returned again. The boy worked hard in life. In order to keep the promise he made with the girl, he did his best to live life to the fullest.

The girl also tried her best to live her life well, in order to keep the promise she made with the boy and do her best to live life best.

The boy told me this. With all his might, the boy is gasping for air as he lives on.

On this night the boy gave all his body heat to the girl. Calling, and kept calling the girl.

I wanted to cry after this scene. Such a heartbreak! Why are Korean scriptwriters fond of tragic endings?!

City Hunter is based on world-famous Japanese Manga by Tsukasa Hojo. Lee Yoon-Sung (Lee Min-Ho) works at the Blue House's National Communication Network Team and received his Ph.D at M.I.T.Kim Na-Na (Park Min-Young) is a bodyguard at the South Korean President's residence, the Blue House . Na-Na lost her parents by car accident since then she made a living by doing part time jobs. She became a bodyguard at the Blue House and she falls in love with Lee Yoon-Sung.

The series began on the last week of May but still, I did not have the interest to watch it though I really wanted to see Lee Min-Ho acting in dramas again. I had a very bad Post-Boys Over Flowers Syndrome that I yearned to see LMH act again more so in an action-romance drama. I also loved BOF's OST so much that I had LSS almost everyday after finishing the series. It was only when CH's episode 9 was posted at Viki.com did I have the interest to start watching it because it had a cheesy romantic side after all-which is the feel-good part of most drama series.

CH was action packed and I was surprised at how much LMH has matured as an actor. I thought that he was really good at BOF but he's far too better in CH that I was again in awe of his acting skills. I've read in websites that both Park Min Young and LMH trained hard in martial arts before the filming of this drama. I really admire actors and actresses who could do the real thing (stunts, playing instruments, singing and dancing) rather that have doubles do it for them.

I felt bad that it ran only for 20 episodes. I was really rooting for an extension because before the final two episodes, there were still a lot of things left to be explained. Many Facebook-ers even made predictions on how the final episode will be like. The last Wednesday and Thursday episodes of the season kept many viewers awake and anticipating. I myself was on FB most of the time to see updates. Prior to the last 2 weeks of the drama, I was patient enough to wait for subbed episodes over YouTube but after that, I endured watching live streaming even without translation. My Korean is not that good yet but I managed to decode some lines though I was frustrated for the things that I could not understand.

CH is an EPIC drama. It was the only drama I really followed every week second to Dae Jang Geum (Jewel in the Palace). The plot was very well thought of despite that it was based on a Japanese manga of the same title. Every episode was action-packed and will leave viewers wanting for more and yearning for the next episode. The cast were well-picked as well. Towards the latter part of the series, behind the scene photos and videos were also uploaded on various sites which showed how well-planned the production was. I particularly liked the one which featured the houses which Lee Yoon-Sung and Lee Jin-Pyo used. I was amazed because they used different locations for the different parts of LYS's "mansion" -from the receiving area, the parking space and work area. LJP's house was also amazing because it was located under a bridge and the elevator shot was actually from another location. The cast and crew had to go back and forth to different locations as the scene required. On a recent link that I posted on my FB wall, I commented how LMH can actually apparate between scenes as the locations for the shoot was really far apart from each other. I also noted that several locations were familiar as they also appeared in other SBS dramas like in the recently concluded Lie to Me. Really amazing production!

I patiently waited a day after each episode's airing for the subbed versions on YouTube or on dramacrazy.net. However, I discovered that I could wait less and watch the raw version on YouTube the same airing night. But as the episodes went by I discovered live streaming via the KBC (SBS) channel. Watching it online via live streaming was convenient for me as I did not have to suffer long and wait for the next day to watch it on YouTube. It also challenged me to learn more Korean so as not to make myself suffer waiting for the subs on viki.com.

The final episode sent me goosebumps and my hands were cold during the entire length of the 1-hour show. I was trembling towards the end because I couldn't believe that this was the last episode. The all-nighters I pulled over was all worth it because watching a great series together with other kdrama addicts gave me a wonderful feeling. My friends know me for hating dramas to the point of calling the television an idiot-box during our college days. My resigning from work just this May gave me the opportunity to watch Koreanovelas which inspired me as well to learn Hanggulmal.

I'm just frustrated that the much anticipated RING scene did not come up. There wasn't even a kiss or hug scene for YS and NN which disappointed many of the fans. So I thought, maybe they should have both ended dead and maybe viewers would have appreciated it more. I already predicted before that JP will cover up fo YS and claim that he's the city hunter and YS blocking a gunshot for the president. YS' lines during the scene where he had the gun to his temple really shook me and I was like screaming in my head, NO!:

The type of revenge where I have to shoot my real dad. Do you think I could live well afterwards?

Having the woman I love point a gun at me..Did you think It wouldn't matter to me at all?

The dad who lost a leg for me, Having to shoot him, how would that make me feel.

If you ever thought about me even once..I wanted you to stop. I just wanted to live a normal and happy life with Father.

But.

It was all a dream, If this is my destiny. I'll end it with my own hands.

Though I wasn't totally amazed with the ending, it was still a good one. I was hoping for a romantic ending for YS and NN but it seems like the director and scriptwriter left a good space for our imagination [to run wild]. There were some fan-made potential endings which I really wished should have been the real thing. I was in denial during the first 10 minutes of episode 20 as Kim Young-Joo reall died eventually. After episode 19, I was rationalizing the fact that KYJ can't die because he promised Sa-Hee that they'll start anew. KYJ owned episode 19 and up until the last minutes of his geongsannim life, he still upheld justice. I really like what he thinks about the CH--that he can't apprehend him because he won over the law; that the CH can bring justice to people where the law cannot.

Everyone may have thought that YS really died. Well, that's a tragic but still an acceptable ending. Nana's so pitiful in this scene, that if I were in her place, I might have as well put a bullet through my chest as well. This was the scene that YS dreamt before but instead of JP it was NN lying on the ground reaching out for him. 

YS did not really die. (Viewers might really hunt down the director and scriptwriter if he did) And there was YS again, magically apparating behind Nana. I thought that they'd run towards each other but again, to my dissapointment, they just remained about a meter apart, seemingly glued to the ground.

 I just wish there was more to this staring and smiling at each other.

So, in the end, we find the prosecutor dead, father #2 dead and nana aboeji finally dying as well. Eun-Ah ang Ki-Joon will be married and his coolness ahjussi will be going to the US with yoon-sung eommoni. Da-Hye has barista skills in check and as for the president, we don't really know.

Viewer reactions on CH's fan pages flooded immediately after the culminating episodes which just showed how popular the drama is. I felt that everyone was emotional about CH's ending and I too am guilty of it. I was almost banned on FB for the numerous responses I've sent over the pages. A lot of fans wanted a season 2. I myself just wanted to have an after-story, much like in BOF's just to explain the things that were left hanging and of course to satisfy the needs of viewers as well. I had a bad post-CH syndrome that up until now, I'm still playing the series over and over and over again, much like what I did with My Princess and BOF's.

Korean drama has never been this good and I would really vouch my reputation for City Hunter. I just can't imagine it to be aired Tagalized on our local networks because somehow, dubbed versions lose the original feeling and tone of the actors and actresses. They also alter the OST's too which I wouldn't really want because CH's OST are the best.

I will surely miss Yoon-Sung, Na-na and Shik-Joong ahjussi. Anyeong City Hunter! Kamsahamnida for a wonderful season! Hwaiting!
