Back to work

I spent the entire weekend sorting out my wardrobe and unpacking. I must have ironed over 30 items of clothing if not more. I think I deserve a break.

Btw, it's been raining all week. I LOVE the rain, as long as it doesn't flood. The past week has been hectic, staying in the hospital till 7 and 8 pm isn't my idea of a life, but hey, this week's so full of plans that I'm scaring myself. The next two weeks are almost booked solid now. I need to book myself for some time to myself. Does that make sense?

I'm back to work and I'm loving every second of it.

x

KL-Japan Summer 2007

An update after two months. I haven't realised how long it's been but work has been terribly busy. Back in KL for a very short time, I've been travelling around to Penang & Japan, thank goodness I resisted travelling to Singapore. Can't quite remember which country I'm in half the time! Met up with some of you in KL already despite my crazy schedule, yay. And met up with Andrew in Japan, the last time I saw him was five years ago in Singapore. Can't believe I've known you for over ten years! Thanks for going out of your way to meet up in Shinagawa. I'll let the pics do the talking, more to come later.

300

Just got back from watching 300 with friends. I thought the cinematography and sound effects were good but the storyline was rather weak. Plus it was too gory and bloodthirsty. But anyhow, it was 119 minutes of light entertainment. Had dinner later and the most amazing conversation that lasted forever. It's been a while since I've met anyone who loves the same things that I do and who loves travelling that much. Time just flew by. We compared notes and now I have a few more places to add to my list of places-to-visit. All in all a very good weekend on the social front.

Otherwise, I've finally recovered from my bad chest infection. I was sick in Malaysia during the CNY and fell sick again one week into starting work here. I haven't had such a bad chest since I had my asthma attacks as a child. Two weeks of working through my illness (I couldn't afford to leave my already short-staffed team), feeling generally rotten and spreading my germs everywhere (some of the patients were probably better off staying at home!), I'm now finally able to complete two sentences without coughing. To hold a proper conversation, breathe through a clear nose and taste what I am actually eating.

Congratulations to Feli & Dan, Kat & Jason for the engagement/marriage!

Time to get back to work, I've got a busy week on call again. Have a good week everyone.

Beautifully Stated...

- As we grow up, we learn that even the one person that wasn't supposed to ever let you down probably will. You will have your heart broken probably more than once and it's harder every time. You'll break hearts too, so remember how it felt when yours was broken. You'll fight with your best friend. You'll blame a new love for things an old one did. You'll cry because time is passing too fast, and you'll eventually lose someone you love. So take too many pictures, laugh too much, and love like you've never been hurt because every sixty seconds you spend upset is a minute of happiness you'll never get back. Don't be afraid that your life will end, be afraid that it will never begin.

~Quote taken from Yi's blog~

I really like this quote because it refers to so many things in life. Time and tide waits for no man. Live life the best way you can. Be happy and make those around you happy.

Home away from home

A little over a week since I set foot back on British soil and it feels like I've never left. I was pretty much thrown into the deep end since I arrived. Less than an hour after arriving in my apartment, I was out laptop shopping. The next morning, I was back in the hospital, starting the day with a hectic Consultant ward round. With one doctor short and between 26-30 patients, 4-5 discharges and the same number of new patients daily, it's been non-stop. Nine days of work straight (thanks to me being on-call) with average finishing times of 7pm-10pm. Therefore this weekend off has been a lifesaver. Sorry for mixing up birthdays (10th of March, I'll remember that next year) and missing phone calls (Sue Ann, I'm still on the same number, was still working when you tried calling), hopefully next week might be better. There've been four mortalities in the past two days and too many newly-diagnosed cancers since I got back. Back to reality.

On a brighter note, Malaysia was fabulous. The weather was a little too hot but the food was scrumptious and the company unsurpassable. It was great to meet up with all of you, especially some whom I haven't seen for years. Thanks to the organisers and the drivers in particular. Luna Bar was amazing, I'm definitely headed back there or to Sky Bar the next time I'm home. It was a good meeting of friends; both new and old. The mini gastronomic tour the night before I left was unforgettable.

I'm loving my new laptop. Now there's only one more thing on my list ;)

PS: A big CONGRATULATIONS for the good news Yi! Well done. Looks like I'll have to try and visit sometime in the next couple of years if we are to meet up before we reach the big 30 mark. Grin.
