Daylight savings

I got up today as my alarm rang. I noticed that it was only 9am. There was one problem, half of my clocks and my K.O.-ed watch were showing 10am instead. Something is very wrong. I checked my laptop and my phone and both were at 9am. Now why are they one hour behind? Funny, went online to confirm a suspicion that I had and it was also the same 9am. Late for church? I was not and then it sudden sparked me, clocks all over the UK are one hour behind. Hey wait its Sunday the 28th right? No wonder the clocks are all one hour pushed back.

It means that daylight savings are over.

One extra hour of the day so that means we have 25 hours today!! WOOHOO!!

Whats for dinner?

Today's dinner was steak. Yes I cooked it up. So what I did was to take a slab of beef that is probably 1.5cm thick and around 4 inches wide. Yikes I have three of em, ok one will do. Cut some carrots and broccoli. So the carrots and broccoli go into the microwave with some spices for around 3 minutes on 600 watts and the steak itself gets marinated with some salt, msg, lea and pearins and lastly pepper, can't for get that now. Well cooking it was the easy part only that the oil was jumping out so I do need a cover for the pan next time if I try something like that. Ok so the total cooking time in total was exactly 1 hour plus eating and washing up. Well the result in the end...

<strike>RARE</strike>

<strike>MEDIUM </strike>

MEDIUM RARE

Pictures?

So thats life, no pictures of late as there is nothing much to take and I probably have to document something well for the time being I will be going for the International Fellowship this coming Friday to meet up with Ken and Isabelle and also the rest of the members who are attending it. I wonder what is going to be cooking and such. Ok of late things have gotten hectic and I can see some people slowly re-entering their trend of things like theres one guy, even back in INTI he came for CF once, twice then gone, work-lah, too busy-lah, need to study-lah and the same thing is gonna happen here also. Well church he says he definitely will go but the other activities he'll probably not go for them. Well I have yet to see how it goes

Ok me and Victor today went out to look for rice to buy after class. We both got 5 kg packs each and I bought a can of lycee the canned type and probably gonna open it later tonight after dinner, which would probably be a steak dinner for me since I got the materials for it only that I am probably missing some sauces but then again the way I cook is for the healthy and my grandmother would complain why so little added? Yes people I look healthy, live healthy and am healthy like it or not. Even some of the girls that have come over due to my flatmate's cooking as their fridge was broke and the new one blocked the door so they came over to eat and one look at what I ate and such they were going wah, healthy guy. In the spur of the moment I did not know what to say as I was quite out of it at that time after gaming for a few hours on end that time. So the place we went to for lunch after that was called Bangkok City. A Thai restaurant run by 3 ladies from Thailand and 2 of em were the cooks while one manned the main counter. So we tried it out and ordered out food and drinks. I had the tom yam chicken soup with fried beef and rice and he had the same but chicken instead. Was good to be eating Thai food once again and even the waitress told us that its only mild spice and we could order extra hot next time if we wanted. Both of us agreed and said yeah next time we come its gonna be extra hot. First time eating there and for a price of a 6 pounds each it was good in a long while.

Next time, looking for more food in town or was it looking for more grub to get? Hehe.

Back to normal

Alright so my blog is back to normal again. It was probably due to tabulas doing maintenance on he site as it stands. With it said I have yet to post after some weeks here in Newcastle. Ok first up we have church. Yes church, and the one that I first attended was St. James, oh yeah the hymns. Nice and so traditional. Cosy. God help me!!! Not to speak bad but it was suffocating in there with not even the Holy Spirit moving are being there at all was what I felt. The format of the entire service, we have teachings and a sermon with also reading of verses from the Bible and sung hymns in between. 5 hymns all in all and the service started at 10:45am and ended at 12pm and according to the lady there, she said that they end earlier usually. END EARLIER!! Anyway that is one church that me and Alvin said we'll not go there again. So the next week we were suppose to find another one called Newcastle Christian Life Centre. So all we had was one contact, a girl named Rachel which Alvin knew. The following week, we did not go, we FFKed her. Oh boy, so dead but the week after that we did go in the end. So our first impression, welcome to Hillsongs Newcastle. Jon and Dee Cook came out of Hillsongs London after being there for 5 years to start a church back here in Newcastle. Currently it is about 200+ members strong and yes the church is noted to be loud but hey worship is the language of heaven, PARTY ON!

That Sunday they did unplug for the entire worship team and for the first time I was thinking whoa cool. So the Friday that followed eventually we attended the international students fellowship which was held at one of the church members house. Ken and Isabelle were the host and boy there were a lot of people there. Now I practically have a 3rd father and 3rd mother. Biological parents are the first, Pas Long and Sis Sherlin were 2nd set and now 3rd set. Well Ken has been asking me and Kings to go over once in a while to jam with the guitars. So we'll probably do it after the assignment which is due on the 22nd of Oct. To further boot Ken managed to get to me and we started talking after church and asked if I played any instrument in particular. Thus now I'm a candidate to join the team but not now until they announce they have a proper meeting place and are asking for new members. The musicians here are really good. As if they are on a totally whole different level from what I know back in Banting. Today most of the people went for the conference in London and Pas Joseph Prince was speaking there and they were really touched. So the bassist and electric rhythm were two Chinese guys and yes they rocked hard like I do for some of you who know what I did back then in Banting.

Well for now that is all from me. More pictures to come at a later date.

Screwed up site

As much of you have noticed my blog is kinda screwed up in a way. The rolling links on the right and also the tagboard is shot. I am not sure as to why such has happened. If this would persist then I would have to change to another blog site in order to regain back those nutty stuff that I used to have on the right side. On a side note maybe I should post more pictures for all to see then again maybe not as I do not have anything new to write up about just yet.

Classes for me have started since and also I have my assignments and am now waiting for the notice to be posted on whom my supervisor would be for my project. So far my choices for the first 3 are microbiology, toxicology and bioinformatics. Depending on which one I am offered I am in for something new and also yes I have access to tons of scientific journals now for my research and such.

First up is my medical topic research and currently we're studying tuberculosis. Yes an age old disease where it seems that it is coming back and also lots of new things. So far I downloaded around 8 journals and read only 3 of them. Reading scientific papers is not easy, rather it is something that people would find rather boring. So sitting down in front of the computer looking through a paper that is almost 10,000 words long for the next 15 minutes of so is rather boring then again you do learn a lot from them as they have many titles and such. The broad spectrum of what is written and what is available amazes me. Compared to my days in INTI where I did not have much access to scientific stuff and also the poor internet connection which discouraged such. Now is a different issue all in all. Much better as compare to last time. Hehe.

Well lets not bore you with anymore facts as it is. Now I have to think up of what I'm gonna eat for dinner as lunch was rice which I boiled with not enough water and added two raw eggs he moment it cooked Japanese style. That was good but thats something more like for breakfast. So I need to do some shopping at this rate on my own. Really need to get out of this small room.

Night view - Part 1

As I plug in my phone to the laptop. I hear the whirring of the DVD rom starting up and I access My Computer in order to retrieve the pictures from my phone. Yes its now time to update for night time in Newcastle here. NUO!!! CURSES!! The damn windows can't detect my usb device. Not too sure what is wrong. Trying to connect and reconnect does not help in anyway. Oh well anyway the night scenery is great over here. Beautiful city and lights at night only the streets are kinda empty accept for the area where the clubs and bars are located. Well after the international student party we headed out with some seniors to a place called The Attic. The dance floor was on lvl 2 of the building out of the 4 story building. Man it was cramp but hey thats the fun part of it. Dancing with friends and yeah there was some on the sidelines for dirty dancing which was performed by Jazzy which he was quite good, unfortunately for the other girls who were there other than Maria, they rest didn't quite get down to such as they were kinda scared or rather not used to such. No payment needed though just go in cause we were either students or we brought girls along which qualified for free entry. One night of dancing in the Student Union hall to The Attic was quite and experience. Well the night life here is great as it, no smoking in the building which makes it all the more better and you even have people who break dance also in the club not to mention the club employs some girls to dance on a small platform also to get the party going. Mid way more dancers on stilts came in the hall. Two of them to be exact and that was really something that you do not get in Malaysia. Oh well thats one night.

On to the other nights, I took my group here to visit the millennium bridge and yeah I am kinda the one of the few navigators here to them who can get round town without a map of sorts once walking through and also finding my way around even if its for the first time in the place. We also had the chance to see the bridge rise up courtesy of a boat club which had people partying on board go under and then back again. Thats nice and The Sage, oh yes if you could only see the place at night. Thats one glass dome full of light. In the end we took the bus back to Haymarket interchange for 80p. Some how I'm still not used to not having to use something like a card where I can tap in and out of the bus like when I was in Singapore. So till now I have to get used to carrying more coins with me. Pictures next time I get the phone to connect properly.

Walking round Newcastle

Life here is really good. Unlike any other place the scenery and the people here and also the way the city is built is unlike any other. Cold weather and sunshine which probably lasts a mere 1 or 2 hours a day is a bit too much for any warm climate person to adapt to. Cloudy and windy but yet refreshing. Me and Kingsley decided that we would try to find Tesco after the induction workshops. Turns out we did not in the end and ended up walking round the city a fair bit.

To start off, we have a hearty lunch.

A quick walk down the shopping arcade near Eldon's.

Then we moved past Northern Goldsmiths where a gold clock can be seen hanging outside over the corner.

Next we pass by Earl Grey's monument which is also Monument Metro station stop. The metro is like the subway here in UK. From here we head down Grey street passing lots of shops.

Down further pass Royal Theather. Which leads eventually to the River Tyne.

On the other side of the bank we can find this building called The Sage. Its a music arena where live bands come to perform and such. Pretty nifty place only that we would have to check up the dates of performances and such.

And finally we come across none other than, then Millennium Bridge. Yes this is the very bridge on the River Tyne.

This here is for further prove that it is indeed the bridge.

The trip ended with a quick chill out on the bridge.

On a quick note, the building next to the bridge was the Baltic Art Museum. The building used to be a flour mill but in time became an Art Museum so the wording on the building is probably going to be misleading. Another example would be the Biscuit Factory, yes it is another art museum also which used to be a biscuit factory. Even the staff that started out here also thought the same but found out the light when visiting it.

Indeed this place is uniquely its own and with more to come, more pictures as we continue on our journey through this age old city which has structures dating more than 100 years or more.

So whats the weather like

After the aircraft touched down at the airport the first thing that one would experienced usually is the change of weather outside of the plane but to much amazement he did not experienced such due to the skybridge having a sort of sealing ability that it has when meeting up with the plane. A short walk down a flight of stairs and up an escalator and on to the immigration counter where a friendly chat with the officer took place and he was cleared to pass. Next was the conveyor belt where the luggage would appear from. One large suitcase and a box was all that was to be collected. Each bearing name tags on either one in order to indicate who the owner was. So much for the baggage and waiting for the rest of the group to finish up and move on out into the main hall of the terminal. Once there, a few people meet up with him and names were traded and a call to wait till half past one was called as the transport would not arrive till then. Early he was by an hour. The entire group then roamed around the terminal and one exit though was open and he stepped out into the the cold air. Longing for such cold air has since been a desire and the sun though it was cold it shone and blazed right into the eyes of the young man as he stood there.

Jonazan Teoh has landed in Newcastle.
