fathers' day

i was actually planning of spending yesterday home, an absolutely amazing idea, with my wife and two kids. but with most of the past days i had, i spent that day at the office again. i did meet my family that evening at the yoga center for the weekly group meditation and after having dinner there i accompanied them to a waiting taxi and went back to the office.

i know that day was fathers' day and should be spent with the family. again, my twisted logic tells me - this is my day and i will spend it according to how i want it spent. however, my absolute truth tells me - nobody will be a father if not for his family, will they? so spend that day with the only reason why you are a father - your family.

the one thing why i am so guilty about what i did or did not do yesterday is because i pinpointed that day as father's day, as the malls are apt to remind you, and missed "celebrating" it. i never had this problem before of being a father, that i have been doing all my married years, until that mall-reminded--father-day in the calendar. every day i try to perform my duty as a father. if am not able to finish it for that day, i would simply finish it next day or next next day, or next whenever until it is finished. those four years that i was separated from my family was my most difficult father performing days as i had to do my duty and not seeing them. but i never missed a day of not being a father.

not even yesterday. i will just simply do it today or next next day or next whenever. but i am sure i will be able to take my family out to dinner and remind them that everyday, as long as i live, is a father's day.

leyte tragedy

one worker and one member of ananda marga social group in cebu went to leyte two days ago to see what the organization could do to help in the tragedy. not much, they say.
bad weather and up to 60 ft. of mud prevents everybody from doing immediate rescue work. plus the fact that sophisticated gadgets are needed to save those who might be still alive. first you need to know what's under the mud you are digging as the buildings one expects to be under it are not there anymore. the force of the mudslide was so strong some of the houses have been moved hundreds of meters away from where they were.
not that nothing is being done. the fact is this is the most responsive and systematic rescue/relief operations ever in the country: the government is there together with the military, the red cross and over a dozen international volunteer groups. politicians had been kind enough not to blame each other, at least for now, yet.
the best we can do is to send in our donations to the proper authorities and be prepared for some more of these tragedies in the near future.

:|: photos taken from inq7.net; agence france-presse

red day, red wine, red thinking

how do you start a revolution? by changing the mind of a people. not necessarily everybody. just enough to make leaders who will inspire the rest.

i thought i was a lone closet rebel, hiding behind my P4 and photoshop, keeping within me the scars of a student leader who lived the first and last decades of the marcos era. surprise! there are two more comrades in our office who were there all the time. i just did not recognize them. maybe because of the capitalist blue jeans and the exploitative make up they used as disguise. and this i have to discover in a plushy, plutocratic wine shop on a commercial fare valentines day (karl marx probably would be restless by now). so after a few sips of red wine, ideas flew out and we just found ourselves in the middle of a discussion on social classes.

so there-there are enough leaders in the office. now all we need is a plan to drag the people out, ignite an anarchy and take over the government. happy red day!
