Forget What You Heard: The Eraserheads Reunion is Pushing Through!!!

The rumors flew fast and thick all weekend. The story was that the Eraserheads Reunion was canceled. After all the relentless pressure from the anti-smoking lobby led by Dr. Maricar Limpin and her allies at the Department of Health, Philip Morris did pull out of the show they organized. But on Sunday night, Raymund Marasigan himself made the announcement: The Eraserheads are "most definitely" pushing through with the reunion show. On schedule. At the right venue. On 08.30.2008 at the Fort Bonifacio open field.

Lemme tell ya, what a cliffhanger this has been.

Just last Friday, a frustrated Raymund Marasigan vented out on the Sandwich and Cambio mailing lists that forces he referred to as "dementors" are "in pursuit" and wanted to stop the show. This didn't deter the former Eraserheads, who wanted to push through with the concert at the appointed time and place.

Writing in coded, almost Nostradmus -like language, he wrote that too much time and emotion had been spent on revving up "The Magical Mystery Show" and that it had to go on. Considering all the effort involved in the hatchet burying among the band members, and the anticipation ratcheted up among the eHeads faithful, a cancellation would have been the ultimate letdown.

Here was the e-mail sent last Friday:

lives, work, and feelings had been put on hold for this circus. i have
done my part. you must keep your word and get this thing under
control. keep the dark at bay. take us to the promised land on the
time that was appointed and give the people what they want.

By Saturday, a brief story went out that the show was canceled, and by evening, it was quoted and re-quoted and it was all over the blogosphere.

I was curious, so I texted a friend of mine close to the eHeads inner circle, just to see if it was all true. I wasn't expecting quite a fast reply, but I got one.

"No confirmation yet. They will tell boys final decision on last rehearsal"

Then just a few scant minutes later came a follow-up SMS:

"Update: Looks like it's pushing through. Different producer. No details."

Sure enough, on Sunday night came the announcement, straight from the drummer's mouth:

..because the Department of Health (DOH) refuses to issue a permit, they've been left with no choice but to cancel the concert. We know that they've been having the hardest time to make this happen because of all the laws and what not, and i guess those troubles have gone far enough and to the point that they've just decided to let it go and not have the show instead.

This is a very sad day in Filipino Music. Thousands, perhaps millions of people have been talking about this once in a lifetime experience for nearly a month now, and without anyone being able to confirm anything absolutely solid, the buzz has just gotten louder and louder. I wonder what kind of monstrous noises we'll be hearing now that the concert has been called off? But what a sad day indeed. People from abroad have purchased tickets to come home just for this one reason. T-shirts have been made. Countless playlists on iPods and radio stations have all paid tribute to the Eheads as a result of their One Night Only Reunion..and now its cancelled.

tumpak. yan ang surprise na bumati sakin pagkagaling ko ng restday (wed thurs) at PTO (friday). i passed the hosting exam and will now start training on monday.

i've been eyeing for this "part" since i started in the account im currently in. but the timing's completely way off...since i have an IMPORTANT lakad this coming Thursday. Training starts at 10pm and the event i will be attending starts at 8pm. Kamusta naman. I've been attending this event for the last 6 years now , and it would really make me sad if i can't attend this year. *sob* sayang ang SWAP namin ni jonell. haha.

I guess we really can't have it all. i won't be able to attend the said event but i will now be facing another phase in my career. pros and cons, baby.

i told my bf right away and he was equally saddened by it. he was asking if i could ask permission to skip that day but i told him, i can't. since we're gonna train for almost 5 days only (tama ba?) we need to be there all the time. (major info overload)

so there. i'm happy to be part of the team, but not excited with the fact that im gonna miss my favorite event in the whole world. sniff.

The order was served by the Taguig Business Permits and Licensing Office (BPLO) to the management of the Embassy Supperclub.

Alex Vargas, 20, a balikbayan, was allegedly mauled by the club’s regular disc jockey, DJ Pauly Mac early yesterday morning. No one from the club, particularly its bouncers, came to Vargas’ aid or pacified the suspect.

Relatives of the victim yesterday sought the help of Taguig Mayor Sigfrido Tiñga about the alleged maltreatment Vargas suffered in the hands of Embassy employees.

Acting on the complaint, the mayor tasked BPLO head Jeff Minglana to immediately enforce a closure order against Embassy Supperclub.

In her sworn statement made before investigators of the Taguig police, the victim’s cousin, Leslee Santos, 18, said that after the incident, two personnel of Embassy bar even escorted the grinning suspect out of the club. No arrest was made.

“The deejay, Pauly Mac was rapping in front of my cousin and nudged him, trying to get his attention to listen to him. As my cousin tried to walk away, Pauly Mac pushed him real hard and started punching him on the face,” Santos said.

The victim was already slumped on the floor when another guy grabbed him. “I thought that he was trying to help him up and take him to a safer place, but it turned out to be the exact opposite.  As soon as the man grabbed him off the floor, I saw Pauly Mac punch him a couple more times, and saw my cousin fall and lay flat on the ground,” Santos added.

Vargas is being treated for head injuries in an undisclosed hospital.

Minglana said the complaint alone was ground for the automatic revocation of the establishment’s license to operate.

“There is a valid complaint made by a patron against Embassy Supperclub. The mauling happened inside the establishment and worse, it was perpetrated by a club employee,” Minglana said on his issuing a closure order.

He said the closure order will be served not only against Embassy Supperclub, but also its sister establishments in Fort Bonifacio.

The Embassy Supperclub has recently gained notoriety after a series of squabbles and scandals involving their patrons that happened just outside the club. Last December, club customers beat up an international pilot to death.

“We cannot allow these incidents of lawlessness paint a negative image of our city. People should always feel safe here in Taguig,” Mayor Tiñga said.

Meanwhile, Taguig police chief, Superintendent Alfred Sotto Corpus said appropriate charges are now being readied against the suspect.
