Updates

Update one:

i finally celebrated halloween's. you know i'd always been envious of those american kids in storybooks dressing up and going around to have fun? i finally got to do it too, at 23 years of age! haha! yay for happening mncs!

4 days before halloween's, HR suddenly decided to have a best themed team competition and shot an email around. at first it looked like no one gave a damn coz it was the middle of the day, and we're all conservative chinese aren't we?

but one thing led to another, and our team decided to participate - secretly. and it was a huge secret, not even the MDs and VPs knew, and we waited until the very morning of the competition to sneak into the office and decorate the place. one day before, other teams were even shooting snide comments at us like 'whoa! its really scary how its so empty here!' and we won. HA HA.

pictures are up on facebook~

Update two:

i went windsurfing. i didn't know sunblock is to be applied to the face. the sun sheared the skin off my face~~~!!! Graaargh~! my face was so amazingly red everyone in the office commented on it. ironically, everyone felt i looked better this way. nooo, girls should be pale and ivory skinned! just how bad was i before? (T___T)

windsurfing was... fun... i guess... i felt like i should have gone and done weight-lifting or something before, as i kept falling off the board not because i couldn't balance, but because the sail was too heavy. and its really sad because there's another ten year old using the same sail as me.

and whenever i fall into the water because of the sail, the instructor would call me to self-rescue back - which is to lie facedown on the board and paddle back with my puny arms.

its useless. if i'd tried sailing back, and succeeded within ten attempts, i'll be faster and closer to the shore. i swear i WAS NOT MOVING AN INCH. I KNOW BECAUSE I KEPT TRYING TO GAUGE THE DISTANCE BETWEEN THE BREAKWATER AND ME AND I WAS NOT MOVING AN INCH although my arms were all sore from all that thrashing around in the water.

in the end a motorboat had to come and lug me back to shore because my attempts at lugging myself back to shore were too pathetic.

Update three:

Mostly because of the windsurfing - i'm sick. on monday i was horribly sick with a fever, dizziness, nausea, migraine, cold and sore throat, but i went to work as i didn't want my mom to worry. i thought it was 98% a case of dehydration and heat exhaustion and lots of water and sleep would cure it anyway, and i'll just pop by the doctor's after work.

work ended too late to pop by the doctor's, and my fever subsided with lotssa water so i headed back to work the next day with a sore throat and a bit of dizziness. my throat was totally making a turn for the worse - people can't help laughing when they hear my voice, and i was advised to take an mc, so i tried finishing up my work for the next day...

and i lost my voice. totally lost my voice. i had to write down notes for my parents to explain the situation and get them to translate for the doctor's. and as usual mum is easily flustered in front of strangers and she went 'uh... on monday she... had slight fever... umm... ummm... 27.9 degrees, and uh...' *checks note* 'a bit of nausea and dizziness...'

doctor: '37.9 you mean'

me: (>_<)"'

so i got a 2 days mc, during which i'm not allowed to talk to anyone. which is swell, because i love annoying people, and there's nothing more annoying then someone who doesn't respond. and they can't do anything about it coz i can't say anything in response anyway. my mum would be nagging from downstairs and i'll be totally... quiet. and then she'll realise i can't say anything anway and she'll stop. hahaha.

i'm going back to work tomorrow. then its the weekend again!

Perfectionist watching Inglourious Basterds

just watched inglourious basterds.

i'm not a nazi, racist, facist or whatever evil-ist person, but damn Hans Lander the Jew Hunter was cool. deadly, efficient, sharp, intelligent, capable double-stabbing son of a bitch. i loved him.

the movie was fast, witty and funny, with a huge dose of gore and immorality, which made it a freaking fun romp.

what got me ticked off was the final attack on Hitler, which was really anti-climatic and stupid. or maybe it wasn't, but it was just my personal dislike for a lack of planning for important missions. a hundred deaths to the allied forces for the lack of planning. one death to the nazis for the lack of security. BLEAH YOU GUYS SUCK AT YOUR JOBS.

i can't do it better than you, but i'm sure someone with your resources could.

Once again~ Hans Lander was just too cool in the movie.

Whinings of a Single Working Lady

its now 2 months of 13 hour work days (although it felt like i aged 5 years). and i want nothing - nothing else but to chill at home and hug something. or go out to the seaside and stare at the sky. or make out with a cute guy. anything that'll get me away from having to think complicated thoughts.

meh i feel like a lump of meat... a cold cold lump of meat nearing the expiration date. my body shudders like a machine that's gonna fall apart any second, and my RAM is full and i'm skipping thought processes, my heart goes into overdrive with the simple act of sitting up in bed. picture this 1st generation laptop that's been left on for 2 weeks, and you get the picture. (>_<)

i am so so so gonna die before 50.

and i'm always cold, so much so that i stopped ordering the sashimi and cha soba bentou set for dinner (its fantastic, and did i ever mention that we eat sushi at least once every week), coz i'll just shiver through my dinner.

i'm so cold that i almost pounced on one of the bulkier guys in the office, who was happily sitting beside me and radiating heat like a summer heater.

i need a bolster. with in-wired heating. and maybe with arm-like extensions that i can wrap around my neck.

and then i remembered i think they might have something like that on the market - its called a sex doll (issit? i think i'd only seen those blown-up plasticky ones though). bleah.

greenie

i just went to the HortPark at Alexandra yesterday. there was this fantastic green interior design showflat thingy there, with really interesting ideas.

so the next day (today) i brought my parents there.

they're real green fingers, so they're really able to appreciate it. like the vertical brackets, growing mint on the wall, the climbers, the vegetables, and we bought new plants to add to our happy family.

i got this little cactus called a Living Stone.

its mostly the name that got me, and the fact that it looks like this cute little coral - and a small flower would sprout from the middle if you take good care of it. when i got my eyes on it yesterday, no one could understand its appeal and my attraction to it. i thought it'll be a cheap $2 like all the rest of the cacti.

when i bought it today... its the price of a full-sized potted plant! if price is an indication of value, it means that i have good taste, hymph! or it might just be a case of low supply and demand... :(

i'll work hard in taking care of it~!

another thing i got my eye on was a marimo ball. firstly that's coz the nickname for Zorro was Marimo-head, secondly, its SO CUTE! where do they sell this?!

a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do

its 1.30am in the morning. I got back from work after midnight (again~) and rushed straight to the washing machine.

my mother's in hokkaido, its been one week, and my laundry seriously needs doing.

i had wanted to do it on sunday, but we were called back to work and saturday was just too hectic - what with badminton, insurance agents, dinners and chunk fest.

i end work after midnight everyday. i start work at 10am.

so its 1.30am in the morning and i'm blogging while waiting for my washing machine to finish up.

i wonder when i become a working mum, is this going to be what my life is like every week? the precious weekends become the precious days where i can finally do my housework, and its work every other time.

noooooooooooo~

and yes, we're working like 15 hours everyday for the past 1 month. its a wonder no one's sick yet.

weird things happen

it was 2 am in the morning. i was sitting at my computer reading manga when i got distracted by a red light shining in my eyes. you know, like when someone is trying to reflect sunlight off a surface into your eyes to annoy you? just like that.

and then out of the corner of my eyes, in the left peripheral of my vision, i spotted something i didn't think possible. there was this red spot of light, wavering around, like the pointer lights that lecturers use.

my first thought was that there was some perverted sucker in the building across trying to harrass me. i took a quick glance out to see if i could spot anyone suspicious, and then i thought i'll ignore it. why give him the benefit of looking like i was making a big fuss of it right?

and then my blood ran cold.

the pinprick of light was dancing awkwardly around my cupboard, on the other end of the room.

and the only way to shine the bloody thing there was if you were somehow floating on empty space, or inside my room, because there are no buildings anywhere in the vicinity from that angle.

i couldn't work up the guts to look out my window or anywhere in the direction from where the lights may have come from.

and then my mother conveniently came in to bugger me about going to bed, and i logged off my computer and went to bed.

shit man.

i finally get how the economy works

yesterday i got off work relatively early, so i thought woot, i'm gonna go shopping for some nice cheap things so i can spend money and not feel so bad about it! like manga! or a mag! and then i reached the mall and realized all the shops were closed. apparently my early is pretty late by normal standards.

booo.

there's no point earning money when you can't spend them.

and then in a fit of rebellion you'll spend a whole chunk on something that doesn't really make you happy. like a stock that won't go up. or insurance. or original wii games. or expensive dresses that looked oh so good but you're never going to wear. or a trip for your parents.

and that is how the economy works. it moves when people with no time feel compelled to spend on stupid things coz 'we worked so hard, we got this reward that we can't really feel, if we don't spend it it'll be like we'll have worked for nothing! but there's no time to shop so let's just buy whatever is conveniently there and hope it brings a certain amount of utility'

money brings me a certain amount of utility too, but not when they'll all stuck in cpf and a bank, and i have no bankbook to oggle at and all my bank statements are shredded (and even when the monthly statement comes in i think 'huh, still so little?')

maybe i should just withdraw all my money and thumb through them every night like old man scrooge.

just kidding - please don't rob my house. i have no cash here.

finally

i haven't washed my hair for 3 days.

that's that. three days of late nights and early days, and i have no time to wash my hair.

so today, finally, when i popped into my house at past midnight i decided that, by hook or by crook, and even if i have to sleep at 3am, i AM GOING TO WASH MY HAIR.

and so here i am lounging about online at 3am in the morning waiting for my hair to dry.

super super late nights, i might even need to return to the office over the weekends, and i confirm have to go to work at 7am come Monday. although today work ended earlier around 8+, and we went down to geylang to eat beef horfun and drink cheap beer till midnight haha.

woot working life.

but then there's the problem of when can i wash my hair with this schedule.

sigh, i need a hairdryer huh.

and i'm a super fan of komi naoshi now, read her ISLAND, PERSONANT and KOI NO KAMISAMA when you have time! she has lots of fresh ideas and good art. another interesting find is $100 is too cheap and some shoujo. and of coz there's my all time favourite mangakas boichi and yumeka sumomo!

right. sleep.

unwell

i just reached home from work... ...

i don't really feel well and i want to go to sleep... ...

urk... (>_____<)

i ate too much today.

we had this sudden spur of the moment decision last night to eat economic beehoon in the office this morning, so a kind soul went to dapao beehoon for everyone and we had breakfast together.

it was great, it was fun, and when lunchtime came no one felt like eating.

but we stuffed ourselves with lunch nonetheless, a pretty late lunch at 2pm.

and then we worked late today and ordered in SAKAE SUSHI - a huge party sushi platter (god those avocado tempura sushis and sashimi were heavenly) with individual bentoes for each person.

i am so stuffed, i am about to conk out already, and i'm feeling really really cold from my FREE taxi ride.

i love work.
