So my boss comes into my office and says it’s [some attorney’s] birthday today just in case you wanted to know. And I said “it’s my birthday next week in case anyone wants to know.” Granted I won’t be here, I will be away but I gave my boss a present and a card. Do I expect anything in return – no I don’t although it would be nice if I got my fucking raise already – but does he really think I care about x’s birthday when she’s never done anything for me. I mean we’re surface friendly always talking about our cats but why in heaven’s name would I care, much less want to celebrate when she was born. I am so happy I’m going away next week. If I were a thermometer my mercury would burst!

L is listening to the sound of his own voice. He loves to hear it. That’s not uncommon when you work for attorneys. They drone on and on thinking they are spewing some brilliant dialogue and it’s mostly drivel. But you nod your head and pretend to be fascinated because they are signing your paycheck. People over they years have said to me “You’re so smart, why don’t you become a lawyer?” My answer usually is “I’m not bitchy/arrogant enough.” I also have a good command of the English language and don’t talk out of my asshole.

I guess I’m the only one in this office who shows up on time. What amazes me day after day is that the receptionist comes in 10-15 minutes late everyday and she still has a job. Isn’t your receptionist supposed to be – well important in a law firm? Most of the time she also looks like she just rolled out of bed with her lumpy sweats and fat ass and shirt with rolls of fat. What a wonderful sight for clients. The thing is that when she’s not on a personal phone call or looking on her Facebook page she’s good at her job. I know from experience that finding a receptionist who can walk and chew gum at the same time is hard. But I would think the economy being what it is there would be someone out there who could actually show up on time and not dress like they are going out grocery shopping. Meanwhile one of my bosses left. I knew it was going to happen when four months ago he lost his biggest (and only) client. Not that this guy needs to work he’s filthy rich and tighter with his money than a vise. So, I’ve been scrambling for work to look busy. Pretty funny because I used to be so busy that both bosses would scream at one another and compete for my attention. I flat out asked my boss if my other bosses retiring was going to affect me. Someone actually told me I should “wait and see” what happens. Yeah right with a roof to keep over my head – I think not. He said that they weren’t thinking that way. Bottom line is that they need me. Bottom line is that I’m 10 times better than the other person who is in here. Of course in my years of experience better doesn’t mean squat – whose ass you kiss does. Yeah my life would be (and have been) easier if I were a suck up. I do not have the suck up gene nor has it been nurtured.

The Haves and the Have Nots

Sometimes I’m envious when I listen to my boss. He’s my age, has a house, two kids and is able to give them everything. Summer camp, parties, whatever extra curricular activities they desire.

I am barely making ends meet. I cannot afford to send my kid to camp (thank goodness he doesn’t want to go). I can’t afford much of anything. I’m blessed that my kid doesn’t ask for much but sometimes I feel so guilty that I can’t give him more.

Another Day at the Fun House

Daisy’s (the lazy fuck) boss made her come into today and she isn’t speaking to me. According to her BFF Monica (again Daisy constantly talks about Monica behind her back) her boss called her at home yesterday (she originally had yesterday and today off) and said that “I” couldn’t handle all the work and she “had” to come in. First of all they never hire a temp. When one of us is out they expect the other secretary to do all the work. I have no problem with that (okay I do) but the bottom line is that I do what I’m told when I’m told. I am not physically able to accommodate four busy people at once. And believe me I do a lot more work (and much better quality) than the subject of this rant. I feel like I’m in kindergarten. I also believe that her BFF instigated some of this as she doesn’t like her. I at no time told her boss I couldn’t handle it. It was no doubt my boss who told him to get someone else to help him out because I had tons of work.

This is really upsetting me. I cant’ stand it when someone doesn’t talk to me. My father did that to me when I was growing up – after one of his rages and my ex husband did the same thing. This time, though, I refuse to smooth out her feathers and make nice.

The Monday Parade of Assholes

Ms Lazy I’m put upon ass took a couple of days off. Sneaky bitch. Sneaky because she didn’t bother to tell me. I always tell her (then again I have to as she in the keeper of the attendance slips) and she always gives me a hard time translation: She might actually have to type a letter for my boss. Meanwhile I get stuck with her two bosses. One who hasn’t bathed since World War II.

Later Her fucking bosses and my fucking bosses are driving me crazy. Would plotting their demise be considered goofing off or something valuable for my mental health.

Now Ms. I don’t give a crap sent out a letter for my boss and didn’t bother keeping a copy of the Fed Ex receipt. So everyone is going crazy looking. Now if the schmuck had only kept records. But she proofreads nothing, spends more time on the phone with her boyfriend and family or schmoozing with the receptionist her best friend (depending on which way the wind blows).

I pitched a fit only to find out that Ms. Lazy will be in tomorrow. Her boss said to me (as he piled on work) that she said that she could come in if he needed her (DUH). Like fuck, you’re not calling in a temp and you’re piling all your shit on me. The next time Ms. Lazy cops an attitude about my taking a day off well tough shit.

Meanwhile tubby/always comes in late/calls in sick receptionist is giving me the cold shoulder no doubt because I showed displeasure at her buddy being out (and not telling me). If tubbylate only knew what her “best friend” said behind her back she wouldn’t be so “protective” of her. Now her fucking smell boss came in and nagged me.

Today I’m working slowly and deliberately. Usually I rush to get things done. Today I’m taking it easy as my work is easy and it’s raining outside. I’m so glad this is my last work day for the week. I’m taking tomorrow off. I get to stay up late tonight, watch t.v. and cuddle with my Gordo. I'm totally positive that the reason that my blood pressure is under control is because of that cat. When he cuddles up next to me nothing is wrong in the world. Last night I was napping and there he was cheek to cheek my little soft stuffed animal. Of course when he misbehaves he gives me that big eyed look like "who me your little sweetie?"

Suicide is Never the Answer

Last night I looked off my terrace to see a ton of police cars, our drive way covered with crime scene tape and a sheet covering a body. Today I found out that it was a 16 year old boy, honor student, in the prime of his life and his parents were arguing. He in turn jumped off the terrace. I've never seen death in my own backyard. And it's sobering to think that this young man was so distraught that he felt this was the only way to get his parents attention. As I hugged my son close I reminded him that no matter how tough things seem if you end your life there's no turning back. Please if you're reading this and the thought has ever crossed your mind find someone you trust. There is help. You don't need to take that path.

Karma is a Wonderful Thing

It is with a great deal of satisfaction that I’m watching Daisy a/k/a Ms. Put Upon and Overworked -- but spends more time on personal phone calls, on the Internet or hanging out with her BFF (this week) Monica than she actually works. Her boss who usually isn’t in on Fridays is here giving her tons of work and tons of grief.

Meanwhile Monica actually apologized to me for not inviting me to her bash saying even some of her cousins couldn’t come. Daisy bought me breakfast on Monday and yesterday gave me this delightful scrapbook (equivalent to a “baby book” for cats). Believe or not I’m not irritated at Monica anymore. Daisy I can live without. She loves to play the victim, inflicts her bad moods on most of us and will never own up to her mistakes. Gee hope her boss stays the entire day. Hee Hee Hee.
